Music, Youth and Family Ministry

Pastor: Alex Zebutis

My philosophy for the worship team is that our goal is to help lead the congregation to worship and glorify God. In particular, the idea is not to approach it as a performance, but as a ministry to help people feel more comfortable worshiping. This means that people in the worship team shouldn’t feel pressured to be perfect, or even amazing musicians – the focus is on God and worshiping him together as a church.

I have led two regularly scheduled youth group meetings in the fall as well as a summer meeting while I was still working on the lesson plan. We have had an average of 10 students at each meeting. I want to stress, however, that while I included the number for your information, numbers should never be the way that we judge how a ministry is progressing. It would be better to have 5 students who grow close to each other and learn deeply about the love of Jesus than 50 students who all come to play a fun game but leave without knowing Him.

Finally, I want to touch on family ministry. This is something that will continue to develop over time as I become more established here with my Springfield Baptist family. There will start to be more events and ministry activities geared toward families with children over the next year. While there is nothing set in stone yet, I want to make sure you know that this is something I am actively working on.
